Group tour to The Lost Horizon of Himalayas

Spiti, Also Known as Little Tibet, due to its culture similarity with Tibet, it is located in the lap of trans Himalaya. Here winter climate is harsh which makes people life somehow difficult.

Tour starts from Shimla, the ancient summer capital of British Raj and presently of the Himachal Pradesh. You will drive through Satluj river gorge amidst the semi desert valley of Kinnaur where stand the mighty kinner Kailash. Kinnaur is also known for the typical Kinnauri architecture villages with temples of their local deities. Here onward start the restricted area of Indo -Tibet border (foreign nation required Inner line permit to access in) to the cold desertic land of Spiti, dotted by century old monasteries and villages, here flourished the Tibetan Buddhism, inhabited by tribal people who are following their old tradition which you will experience during your sojourn.

There are chance to encounter the wild animals  such as Ibex, blue sheep and elusive snow leopard.

Day 1:  Arrival & Report at Shimla Hotel.

Day 2 :-Shimla to Kalpa (2290mtrs)  222 kms. 7-8h

Day 3: Kalpa to Tabo (3050m)160km, 6/7 hrs. 

Day 4: Tabo to Kaza (3500m) via Dhankar – Komic (4300m) - Hikkim (4400m), Langza(4100m) 60 kms, 6/7h

Day 5: Kaza Visit: Kye- Kibber ( 4200m) – Chicham Bridge -Kaza (3550m).75 kms (Day excursion)

Day 6: Kaza – Kalpa or Recongpeo (2290mtrs) via Nako (3600m/ 160 kms. 6/7h

Day 7: Recongpeo / Kalpa – Shimla drop -222kms, 7/8 kms.

Day 1:  Arrival Shimla.

Arrive Shimla by afternoon, day at leisure. Shimla, Once the summer capital of British Raj. Presently is the state capital of Himachal Pradesh and one of known hill station of India. Stroll in mall road is to mingle with folk and feel the nostalgia of Victorian era. Night in hotel.

Day 2 :-Simla to Kalpa (2290mtrs)  222 kms. 7-8h

After early breakfast drive via Kufri, Narkandha and descend to the Rampur erstwhile Himalayan kingdom of Rampur Busheher, Recongpeo the distt. headquarter of Kinnaur. Further drive to Kalpa, the majesty of the Kinner Kailash mountain is in direct vision. This is regarded as one of the mythical abodes of Lord Shiva. Visit village and temple-built in typical Kinnauri architecture. 

If time allow you can take short drive on old Hindustan-Tibet Road where locate the suicide point, One of attraction due to its sheer cliffy road. Back to Kalpa, night in guest house/ home stay.(Please note that foreign nation participant required inner line permit which will be done on arrival in Recong- Peo and required some time to clear the administrative formalities) 

Day 3: Kalpa to Tabo (3050m)160km, 6/7 hrs. 

Descend to the main Indo- Tibet border road, drive through narrow valley along the opposite flow of Sutlej River. A short photo stop at Khab where Sutlet river came out from narrow gorge to entre in to India and its tributary Spiti river merge in it. 

Drive through several villages we reach at Tabo by late afternoon. Tabo monastery has been founded in 996 A.D. often called the Ajanta of Himalayas. In trans Himalayas Buddhism Tabo sanctity is next only to Tibet’s Tholing gompa. Night guest house. Please note that inner line permit issued to foreign nation participants will be check at 3 check post, hence keep the necessary documents (passport and permit) handy.   

Day 4: Day 4: Tabo to Kaza (3500m) via Dhankar – Komic (4300m) - Hikkim (4400m), Langza(4100m) 60 kms, 6/7h

Drive to Dhankar, once the capital of erstwhile kingdom of Spiti, visit monastery and the most incredibly situated gompa perched high on the barren rocky mountain slopes. The sixth century Dhankar Gompa, though not well preserved still has some magnificent original Thankas and statues tucked away in dark rooms. 

Leave to visit the Comic village located in higher scenic region of Spiti, Here locates one of the highest monasteries of the world, it houses some of mural painting and precious Thankas, descend to have view on village located below the monastery.

Bit further is a rustic village of Hikkim built of mud bricks as most of the Tibetan traditional houses, village house highest post office of the world. You can also witness villagers taking care of their when its not feasible to bring up to pasture during winter, take time to get interaction with villagers. Last short drive of the day by the accompany of magnificent Chau-Chau Kang Nilda peak to typical of Langza, majestically located peak at backdrop dominate the entire higher region of day you drove through. Above the village Buddha statue is built as sentinel to protect the villagers from evil spirit. Night in home stay. 

Day 5: Kaza Visit: Kye- Kibber ( 4200m) – Chicham Bridge -Kaza (3550m).75 kms

A scenic downhill drive to join the main road between Manali- Kaza.Now follow the opposite flow of Spiti river toward scenic Kye village, visit the famous Kye gompa perched high on a pyramid like mountain belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, it houses precious Thankas and mural paintings are remarkable. You can meet the monks to have the insight of their life style.

Up hill drive to Kibber village with its few modern houses. Village has its charismatic look due to its fortified structure.

Bit further is photogenic Chichem village seen from outskirt of Kibber, located on ancient bartered trade route with Tibet. A stunning sheer deep gorge over which the bridge is built connect two villages (Kibber-Chichem) and is the home to elusive snow leopard often spotted during winter. Evening back to Kaza, Night in Home stay.

Day 6: Kaza – Kalpa or Recongpeo (2290mtrs) via Nako (3600m/ 160 kms. 6/7h

Drive back to Recongpeo / Kalpa, on the way visit Nako, the most charming village situated around the lake, it offers a magnificent view of Surrounding Himalaya. To the north of the village is the monastic complex belonging to the Drugpa order of Tibetan Budhism.  Continue following the same route till Recongpeo / Kalpa, night in guest house/ home stay.

Day 7: Recongpeo / Kalpa – Simla -222kms, 7/8 kms.

Leave early after breakfast, take same road back till Shimla. Drop at Bus stop which will be convenient place for every participant to move toward their hotels or onward destination. End of services.

    This is mandatory for all clients travelling on any tour/ trek or independent itinerary arranged by us. You are responsible for obtaining adequate insurance covering unexpected such as the loss of baggage, medical expenses, helicopter (air or ground) rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment of the itinerary. *It is strongly advised that clients take out insurance to cover the unexpected and cancellation charges.
    No refund will be made for any unused services included in the tour / trek cost. No refund will be payable to any client who voluntarily or obliged to leaves a trip enroute, clients are responsible to bare their own expenses, expenses of such as escort, transport, hotels and other related services occurred due to such circumstances.
    Client agrees to accept the authority and the decision of the tour/ trek leader or escort appointed by the company whilst on tour with the company. If in the opinion of the tour/ trek leader, any client’s behavior is detrimental to the safety, welfare or harmonious state of the group as a whole, the client may be asked to leave the tour / trek without any right of refund and all extra expenses caused will be on his/her charge.
